Haley Algrant is a 10th grader at The Dwight Englewood School, and this is her second appearance as a dancer in Englewood Idol. Haley danced in DE’s High School Musical last year and is also an actress who has appeared in The Little Mermaid and an original play called Likes. When not on stage, Haley can be found behind the scenes in the costume department. In March 2018, she played Miss Katherine Moss in DE’s production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Haley’s idols are Oprah and Beyonce who she considers “a given.” Her favorite actress is Reese Witherspoon who also happens to share the same first name with Haley’s dog.
Paris Cooke – Brown is a 15-year-old sophomore at the Dwight Englewood School, which she has attended since the 7th grade. This is her first time performing in Englewood Idol. A native of the Bronx, Paris never attended a dance lesson, but taught herself to dance at a young age by making the most of the culture in the community around her and by watching many “Step Up” movies. Aside from dancing, her hobbies include softball, soccer, art, music, and martial arts. She would like to thank her parents, Joni Brown and Christopher Cooke, for everything, as well as her dance partners, and Ms. Frankel.
Allison Labutin is a 14-year-old rhythmic gymnast who has been attending theDwight Englewood School since PreK 3. She has been doing gymnastics for the past 8 years and was multiple time champion of NJ state. She is also the all-round Bronze medalist in the 2015 USA National Championships and Silver medalist in clubs. Allison was also Bronze medalist for her ball routine in 2017 USA National Championships and qualified as being one of the top 40 junior gymnasts in the country.She would like to thank her mom Yana Arakelov for starting her in gymnastics and for being the most patient person ever. She would also like to thank all her coaches who stood by her and helped her to grow up to be the person that she is today.
Ehren Layne is a 17-year old senior at Dwight Englewood. He grew up with a passion for dancing and being on the stage. Ehren’s dancing abilities range widely being that he was taught many styles of hip-hop, popping, etc. He has trained alongside professionals in the dancing field who he hopes to continue dancing with when he pursues dance in college. He has participated in two Englewood Idols during his high school career and is ecstatic to be performing on the BergenPac stage on last time. Ehren intends to spark the stage with his energy and creativity.
Alannah McEvoy-Benisti is 14 years old and is in the 9th grade at the Dwight Englewood School. She has taken classes in Hip Hop, Jazz, and Ballet. She is extremely excited to be preforming at Englewood Idol for the first time and thrilled to be part of the DE Dance Crew, surrounded by amazing dancers. She has already learned so much from them and is eager to learn more.
Leila Mosteika is 17 years old in the 12th grade at the Dwight Englewood School, which she has attended since 3rd grade. This is her third time dancing in Englewood Idol, and she is extremely excited to perform one last time. When she was younger, she studied Jazz, Ballet, Ballroom, and Hip Hop. Leila loves being one of the presidents of the her school’s Dance Club and is very grateful for everything Mrs. Frankel has done to help her. She is also very grateful for her fellow dance partners. She would also like to thank her parents, Jolanta and Darius Mosteika, for everything, and the audience for coming and supporting!
Jessica Sonkin is a senior at the Dwight-Englewood school. This is her third time participating in Englewood Idol. Jessica has been dancing for most of her life, mainly with the Professional Arts Academy. By attending classes, competitions, and intensives, Jessica has established technique in Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Acro, Tap, and Musical Theatre genres. Her focus on the performing arts over the years has led to jobs, volunteer opportunities, and even the chance to utilize ballet technique for an upcoming Biopic. She is thankful for the DE Dance Club and for Ms. Frankel’s support, leadership, and contribution.
Ben Zhu has been dancing for about 6 years, training seriously training for 3 of them. Since Ben discovered his passion for dance, he started an Instagram page: benjix.01, where he has been for 21/2 years. His Instagram page now only raises the level of his dancing, but also connects him to 50,000 followers. Throughout Ben’s performances at the Dwight-Englewood School, where he is a senior, in China, in South Korea, at auditions, or even simply at his own studio, he has learned that any art form is more about building and participating in community rather than about developing the skills themselves. Ben has been a regular performer at most Dwight-Englewood special programs, has performed as a soloist many times, and has competed in dance battles in NY and NJ. This year, Ben is one of the student leaders of DE Dance Crews, and this is Ben’s 4th consecutive year of participating in Englewood Idol.
