Englewood Idol Host
Janae Wilson is a 18-year-old senior at Dwight Morrow High School. She has tons of experience in hosting shows and presenting talent, as she was our host for the past couple Englewood Idols and Englewood’s Got Talent. Her biggest inspiration to take on this role is Ms. Aronson, as she always believes in Janae for putting on an amazing show. Janae aspires to be a part of the entertainment industry and produce shows just like Englewood Idol in the future. One of her most proud accomplishments is conquering her stage fright. During the pandemic, she has been able to connect with many people outside of her circle. Janae had a great time hosting Englewood Idol!
Jayla Ebanks is a 17 year old senior at the Academies @ Englewood. This is the perfect role for her because it brung her out of her comfort zone and allowed her to experience a new role instead of being a performer. She always wanted to try directing to see if I would like to pursue that in the future. Her devotion and passion for the performing arts had the most inspiration for her to fulfill that role. In the future, she wants to be in the performing arts, entertainment, and/or music field, whether it's acting, producing, dancing, making music, or directing. Her career aspirations relate to her assigned role because she wants to have a career in the performing arts. She will be attending NYU Tisch School of the Arts as a Performance Studies major this fall. Her biggest accomplishment is committing to NYU, getting a huge academic scholarship, and being a part of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Program in NYU. This program selects 60 out of all admitted students to participate in this program and comes with many benefits such as scholarship money and summer research grants. One positive thing that came out of the pandemic was getting to discover herself. She was able to figure out who she was, what she wants to do in the future and learn about her interests/talents.
Junior Idol Director
Samantha Whilby is an 18 year old senior in the Biomedicine Academy Academies@Englewood. Junior Idol Director is the perfect role for her because she has been really into designing and planning events over the past year. Therefore, she thought what better way to fulfill my passion than help out with one of my favorite shows. Her aunt is her biggest inspiration. In the future, she wants to become a pediatrician! She loves helping with younger kids, so she wanted to work with them in the show. She is going to Virginia Tech to further her studies. Her proudest accomplishment is being able to finish school and go to one of her top colleges. During the pandemic, she’s been able to focus on what she’s passionate about and find out more things that she is interested in such as designing and decorating!
Junior Idol Director
Paulina Malec is a 17-year-old junior in the Biomedicine Academy at the Academies at Englewood. She has great leadership and teamwork skills that have made her most fitted for this role. She has always enjoyed working with hers and loves to interact with kids, which is mainly why she chose to be a director for Junior Idol. Her biggest inspiration for taking on this role was Ms. Aronson and the Englewood Idol Staff who are putting their time and effort into making this show an amazing production. Paulina wants to use her experience with teamwork and working kids in her future aspiration to work with children in the medical field. One of her most proud accomplishments is working to maintain good grades throughout the pandemic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Paulina was able to spend more time with her family and create stronger bonds with her friends. Paulina had a terrific time working on Englewood Idol this year!
Junior Idol Director
Sadie Tu is a 14 year-old freshman in the Biomedicine academy at Academies at Englewood. She is perfect for her role because she can easily work with a team to help keep everything organized. Her sister, Sienna Tu, has inspired her to fulfill her role by showing her how to work with each other. Though she is not completely sure what she wants to do in the future, she hopes to work somewhere in the medical field. This relates to her role because she might have to work with a team easily to help a patient. She is most proud of being able to stay close to all her friends and form stronger bonds with their family. Covid has allowed her to make new friends, join more clubs, and make stronger bonds in general.
Kiana Ong is an 18-year-old senior in the Biomedicine Academy at the Academies at Englewood. She has worked with Ms. Aronson in every John Grieco Scholarship Fund Club event since middle school, so this club naturally feels like home for her. Her biggest inspiration for taking on this rule is Sienna Tu, as they both motivate each other throughout every endeavor and she is truly inspired by her work ethic. Kiana will be studying Communications at the University of Southern California and wants to move towards Digital Media and Marketing minors. Her biggest accomplishment is having the privilege to attend USC in the fall. During the pandemic, she was able to get closer with her family, making her miss them even more when she heads off to college. Kiana had an amazing time working on Englewood Idol this year!
Sienna Tu is an 18-year-old senior in the Pre-Engineering Academy at the Academies at Englewood. She enjoys putting events together and loves working with Ms. Aronson on the show, as she has in the past years many times. Ms. Aronson is her biggest inspiration for taking on this role, as she can run multiple events at once and taught her the importance of delegating tasks as well as writing things in a planner. Sienna aspires to improve educational systems through Artificial Intelligence in the future, and her skills of delegating tasks and teamwork will definitely come in handy. She is very proud of being able to maintain her grade, keep up with extracurriculars, and be accepted to various colleges during the pandemic, including Rice University, where she will be attending in the fall. During the pandemic, Sienna got the chance to spend more time with her family and her dog, Louis. She had a great time working on Englewood Idol this year!
Associate Executive Producer
Jadyn Lewis is a 17 year-old junior in the Law and Public Safety Academy at the Academies at Englewood. Being an associative executive producer is a good role for her because she possesses strong teamwork and organizational skills. Aside from those vital skills, she also loves seeing programs, such as this show, develop. By her being an assistant executive producer, she can see the show drastically transform as time progresses as a direct result of the work that the idols and idol staff contributed, which is very rewarding in her eyes. Her dad has inspired her the most to fulfill the role of associative executive producer. She is not sure about her career path in the future, but enjoys helping people reach their fullest potential and being an associative executive producer helps her do just that. She is most proud of the John Grieco Scholarship Fund Club’s ability to put together a show despite the current state that the world is in. Covid has dramatically impacted the lives of many, herself included. However, this pandemic allowed her to begin taking care of herself more from a mental health standpoint.
Associate Executive Producer
Sreeja Satish is a 16 year old junior at the Academies @ Englewood. This role is perfect for her because she loves being versatile, and she thinks connecting people and making sure people get their jobs done is really fun when taking part in a production like this. Her family inspired her the most, as well as some of her teachers. She can definitely say that taking a leading role in Englewood Idol and other clubs and activities at school has helped her realize that she likes managing and leading her peers in order to strive for their best. Above all, she admires the way she keeps going despite things becoming hard, and seeing all the people around her keep preserving boosts her to her best self. Even though this year has been hard, she appreciates the extra time staying at home gave her, since she was able to dedicate more time towards Englewood Idol and other activities she loves. She was able to dedicate more time to herself and things she liked to do, and that was definitely a positive aspect to her!
Joanne Kwon is a 17-year old junior in the Finance Academy at the Academies at Englewood. She loves being Co-Producer for Englewood Idol because it allows her to utilize her skills in editing and filming to benefit the community! She always remembers filming and editing videos when she was young and it became a really fun hobby for her. Ms. Aronson has inspired her the most to fulfill this role because she taught her how to be a good leader and to use her skills for service. Joanne aspires to continue this service-mindset by hopefully getting a job in the future where she can help people on a daily basis. One of her most proud accomplishments is winning an essay contest in 6th grade and reading it in front of a big audience confidently. During the pandemic, Joanne was able to focus more on herself and mental health, ultimately growing into a stronger person. She had a blast working on Englewood Idol this year!
Director and Producer of Interview
Malaika Menezes is a 16-year-old junior at the Academies at Englewood. She has a passion for film and plans to go into film and media in the future. Her biggest inspiration for taking on this role is her mom, as she always encouraged her to go out and do whatever makes her happy. Filming and producing interviews for Englewood Idol was the perfect opportunity for me to do what she loves. In the future, Malaika aspires to go into film and learn all the different ways she can change the world through videography. Her biggest accomplishment is overcoming all the challenges she went through in her early life while still retaining her happy personality. During the pandemic, Malaika was able to focus on creating film and writing more. She had a great time working on her passions during this year’s Englewood Idol.
Backstage Manager / House Manager
Christopher Butcher is an 18 year old senior in the Biomedicine Academy at the Academies @ Englewood. This role is perfect for him because he believes he is particularly skilled in managing groups of people. Additionally, he works well under pressure and has immense stamina which is beneficial when going back and forth between backstage and the lobby. His hardworking friends, particularly Sienna and Kiana, inspired him to take on a leadership role in this production. He witnessed how hard they worked and wanted to do anything he could to assist their efforts. He will be attending Princeton University with the intention of concentrating in Molecular Biology and African American Studies. Right now, he has aspirations to attend medical school. He believes his role in Englewood Idol will enable him to develop the leadership skills necessary to lead a medical team. His proudest accomplishment is being exceedingly proud to have been accepted to six Ivy League Universities and Stanford as a first generation college student. He’s also proud to be dedicated to achieving racial equity in Englewood. After remaining in isolation for an extended period of time during the pandemic, he was able to discover his passion for racial justice. He’s become involved in his community to a greater extent and has made long lasting relationships that he will treasure for life.
Timmy Zhang is a 16-year-old junior in the Finance Academy at the Academies at Englewood. He has a passion for economics and marketing and through this role of Marketing Manager, he feels he can express himself and participate in a project that serves his community. His biggest inspiration for taking on this role is Ms. Aronson and the seniors at Dwight Morrow High School and the Academies at Englewood. Since Timmy already had an interest in this role, he remembers when he was an underclassmen, admiring Ms. Aronson and the upperclassmen run the behind-the-scenes for Englewood Idol so that students and people of the community can enjoy the show. With the skills he learns in marketing and communications, he wants to pursue economics in the future. One of his most proud accomplishments is being able to hold strong relationships with his friends, family, and teachers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Timmy has gotten a lot closer to his family, playing board games, sharing more meals together, and having fun family time. He has had so much fun marketing and being a part of the Englewood Idol staff this year!
Social Media Manager & Program Editor
Khushi Panchal is an 18-year-old senior in the Finance Academy at the Academies at Englewood. She has been promoting and marketing events for the Dr. John Grieco Scholarship Fund Club and many other clubs ever since freshman year. Through her experiences, she has fallen in love with marketing and making sure to increase participation at various events. Khushi also loves to document fun memories and reaching out to various people. Her inspiration to take on this role is Ms. Aronson, as she always motivates her to be more creative and think outside the box. Khushi will be studying marketing at Villanova University in the fall and is super excited to further her marketing and social media skills, hopefully in the field of beauty and fashion in the future. One of her most proud achievements is coming out of her shell and not letting others opinions affect the way she views herself. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was able to figure out her passions and future aspirations, as well as take on many passion projects, such as starting her own business Khushi’s Cupcakes, getting an internship at Protimber Global, and starting a brand ambassador position at a small business named Ridaluxx. Khushi had an amazing time promoting and marketing this year’s Englewood Idol!
Krisna Panchal is an 18-year-old senior in the Pre-Engineering Academy at the Academies at Englewood. She is a very organized and thoughtful person and she loves giving credit to the amazing Idols and the entire Englewood Idol team for putting on such a spectacular show. Her biggest inspiration for taking on this role is Ms. Aronson, as she constantly saw the light and abilities in her and opened up the road to so many opportunities. Krisna aspires to spend the rest of her life solving problems and helping others. She will be attending Columbia University in the fall for Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Human Rights and Activism as well as Computer Science. Working on the Englewood Idol team for the past 4 years allowed her to put her service mindset to action. Her biggest accomplishment is becoming a Questbridge Scholar at Columbia University, recognizing her as a first generation, low-income student at an Ivy League university, a recognition only 80 people get. During the pandemic, Krisna was able to reconnect with her spirituality and religion, making her a calmer and more open-minded person. She loved being a part of the Englewood Idol team here!
Musical Director for Junior Idol
Aika Harris is a 16-year-old junior in the Law and Public Safety Academy at the Academies at Englewood. She is an avid instrumentalist and grew up with music constantly around her. She has played piano since she was only 5 years old, saxophone since she was 10 years old, and many more instruments as she grew older. She was also a part of the A Capella group Vocal Synergy in 2019-2020. Her biggest inspiration for taking on this role is Dr. Hollander, because he was the one who introduced her to the marching band and promoted her to section leader this year. With all the management and disciplinary skills Aika has picked up in her involvement in musical endeavors, she hopes to further her career in the field of Corrections Administration, because she feels that not every person in the prison system is represented and many are wrongfully accused. One of her most proud accomplishments was being a part of Macy’s Great American Marching Band for Thanksgiving. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aika was able to grow and self-reflect as a person. She was also able to workout and be more active, as well as improve her grade in many classes. Aika had so much fun working on Englewood Idol this year!
Alex Ha is an 18-year-old senior in the Informations Systems Academy at the Academies at Englewood. He is skilled in audio editing and communications, making him perfect for this role. Ms. Aronson had encouraged him to take on this role and allowed him to realize his skills in this field. In the future, Alex aspires to go into Computer Science, and his Englewood Idol experience will give him good experience if he decides to go into sound systems. During the pandemic, Alex was able to have more time to think and try new things. He had a great time working on Englewood Idol this year!
Tsean Mattoo is a 16-year-old junior in the Pre-Engineering Academy at the Academies at Englewood. He is really passionate about technology and grabs any opportunity thrown at him that requires the use of technology. He has also been the Tech Director in the Englewood’s Got Talent Show last year as well. His biggest inspiration is Elon Musk, a well-known Aerospace Engineer and the most techy guy he knows. Tsean aspires to continue his love for tech by pursuing Aerospace Engineering in the future. One of his proudest accomplishments that gets him closer to being an aerospace engineer is earning the role of an Intern at Coffin Turbo Pump, stationed right in Englewood. During the pandemic, Tsean was able to learn time management and truly make the most out of his time at home. He had so much fun working on Englewood Idol this year!
Danny Liu is a 17-year-old junior in the Pre-Engineering Academy at the Academies at Englewood. He really enjoys working and learning about technology. Danny doesn’t really have someone that inspires him. He just works off self motivation. In the future, he aspires to be an engineer since engineers have to be creative in the way they use technology and that is what the job entails. His proudest accomplishment was when he got all the way to semi finals for the school’s League of Legends esports team. The Covid-19 pandemic and quarantine helped him reflect about his past and look into the future. He did a lot of soul searching at this time, figuring out who he wants to be and what he's good at.
Lorenzo Consales is an 18 year old senior at the Academies @ Englewood. This is the perfect role for him because he has been making movies for years, understands the processes and is experienced in the recording of Englewood Idol. Christopher Nolan is his biggest inspiration. His role relates to his future career because he is going to college for film. His proudest accomplishment right now is almost finishing high school. He says that freshman year felt like it was 2 minutes ago. During the pandemic, he was able to finish all my college applications easier and faster.
Cole Rosenthal is an 18-year-old senior in the Biomedicine Academy at the Academies at Englewood. Filmmaking is his greatest passion and embodies his most defining quality. His inspiration for filmmaking comes from the successful filmmakers in the industry that continue to tell their impactful stories through movies and film. Cole will be attending New York University Tisch School of the Arts, where he plans to pursue filmmaking as a career, mainly writing stories, screenplays, as well as directing and acting on the side. His most proud accomplishment is making his documentary, which he released last October on Youtube, “The Exclosures,” about the deer overpopulation crisis in Northern New Jersey and how one nature preserve is taking action in response. The pandemic has helped Cole strengthen his writing and storytelling abilities. He had a great time working on editing and putting together this year’s Englewood Idol!
Christine Salazar is a 16 year old junior at the Academies @ Englewood. This role is perfect for her because she loves working with other people and digital media. Her friends have inspired her to do what she loves. Her career aspirations are vague right now but she knows she wants to work in media one day. She’s really proud of herself for being able to keep her grades up while dealing with a lot of change this past year! Covid has given her a lot of time to self-reflect on her passions and future, which she’s really thankful for!
Sidrath Ahmed is a 17 year old junior at the Academies@Englewood. This is a great role for him because he gets to engage himself in one of the most technical issues during the whole show. Tsean and Danny are his biggest inspirations because they are a great working team. In the future, he intends to go in a STEM related field. His idol role relates to his career goal as he will have to solve multiple technical issues when he is in this field. During the pandemic, Sidrath became closer to his family. He helped out his mom and dad on multiple occasions. Similarly, he helped out his grandparents by doing many chores around the house.
Rebecca Tsekanovskiy is a 17-year-old junior in the Informations Systems Academy. She is very interested in working with technology and running the website. Her love for computers truly inclined her to take on this role. In the future, she aspires to go into a major concentrating on computer science. One of her biggest accomplishments is working to create an amazing Englewood Idol website for this year’s theme. During the pandemic, she was able to focus more on herself and become happier and healthier. She had a great time using her passion for computer science in developing this year’s website!
GINA HONG & JOSHUA DOS SANTOS
Gina Hong and Joshua Dos Santos are both 15-year-old freshmen at the Academies at Englewood. They started their freshmen year out strong by joining the Englewood Idol team, despite school being virtual. Both are very interested in tech and love to be able to use their creativity in designing the website for Englewood Idol. Even though they are freshmen, Ms. Aronson was their biggest inspiration for taking on this role, as she truly encouraged them to get involved despite their virtual limits. Gina and Joshua both loved working on the website for this year’s Englewood Idol!
Alison Le is a 17-year-old junior at the Academies at Englewood. This role is perfect for her because she loves the visual arts and collaborating with others. Her friend Serena is her biggest inspiration. In the future, she plans to go into industrial design and illustration, which are both creative fields. Her proudest accomplishment is running the Art Club! She loves spreading her passion for the arts, talking about cool art and artists, and doing art with the club’s other members. She’s proud of also contributing her arts on campus whether it be through the Grieco Scholarship Club or as an editorial illustrator for the school newspaper. During the pandemic, She’s been spending more time finding new ways to create things such as learning how to screen print, experimenting with oil paints and pastels, and working with unordinary materials.
Lyndaura Freitas is a 15 year old freshman at DMAE. This is the perfect role for her because she enjoys art. The high morale of her teammates, and my ironic fear of surpassing the deadline helped her fulfil her role. There are many things she wants to do in the future, and art can be attached to all of the above, which she thinks is truly amazing. During the pandemic, she had a lot of time to come up with some funky art pieces.
LaNee Thomas is a 16-year-old junior at Dwight Morrow High School. As the president of National Honor Society, she is always looking how she can bring her artistic knowledge to help other clubs. Her biggest inspiration to fulfill this role is Ms. Aronson, who is always encouraging her to join clubs. In the future, LaNee aspires to work in the art-technology field. One of her proudest accomplishments was running the Art Club at our school. During the pandemic, she was able to make a closer friend group. She had a super fun time putting her artistic skills into this year’s Englewood Idol!
Serena Isahak is a 17-year-old junior in the Finance Academy at the Academies at Englewood. She is a very creative individual and often takes part in other art-related extracurriculars, including various art competitions, Art Honors Society, and Art Club. Her biggest inspiration to take on this role is her good friend Alison Le, the Art Director of Englewood Idol this year. Serena aspires to utilize her passion for art to pursue business in the future. One of her biggest accomplishments is being accepted into the National Art Honors Society. During the pandemic, Serena was able to take on more extracurricular activities and be a part of helpful clubs. She had a blast showcasing her artistic talents as a part of this year’s Englewood Idol team.
Decorations & House Staff
Natalia Wotjala is a 17-year-old junior in the Law and Public Safety Academy at the Academies at Englewood. She loves decorating and working with a team, and finds it really rewarding to see the result of efforts in the house. Her biggest inspiration to fulfill this role is Ms. Aronson, as she always pushes her to take on more challenging tasks. In the future, Natalia aspires to work with children and study human development, as she uses her skills in working with children during Englewood Idol. One of her biggest accomplishments is being a part of the March Madness Game-Maker Team ever since she was a freshman, as they put so much effort in to make everyone feel included in the event and work out the hassles of it being virtual. During the pandemic, she was able to push herself to put her efforts wherever she could and even found a job coaching soccer for 2-6 year olds. Natalia loved being a part of the Englewood Idol team this year!
